World Heritage Sites
I've been ruminating on UNESCO's so called World Heritage Sites and decided to work out how many of them I have visited. My total is 143 in 48 countries. I've never thought about it before as we don't specifically seek out sites because they're designated. In fact, I'm surprised to find some places are listed. For example we enjoyed the mosaics at Um er-Rasas in Jordan and there were no other tourists, but without specialist knowledge I was unable to see that they were of, "universal cultural importance."
So here's my list; the yellow diamond notes sites chosen for their cultural importance, the green indicates sites picked for their ecological importance, and red denotes a site that is on the "List of World Heritage in Danger."Clicking on any of the sites listed below will bring you to their relevant UNESCO page; complete with photos, a map and a long description.
